Atomic Dragoness

She's growing too fast! Anyhow, I finally got a semi-decent digital camera, so here are some pics of my sweetie.

In case anyone's wondering, the little sleeping bag and pillow she has were her Christmas present from my mom. She made them by hand. Vega loves them. She goes in and goes right to sleep with her head on the pillow. It's adorable.

En Garde!

(no subject)

Hi, this is my first time posting at this community. I've been a fan of reptiles for a long time so when my parents let me keep lizards I was very happy. I used to keep Anoles and House Geckos but I had to donate them to the local Petco when I left home to go to college. I wanted to keep them but the dorms wouldn't allow them and my parents would never be able to care for them properly. Since then I have lived in places that didn't allow pets so I had to wait. This summer I moved into an apartment that allows pets so I started making preparations for a new pet. I decided on a Leopard Gecko. I got my my gecko Mana-sama about five weeks ago and so far things seem to be going well. Mana had a tough shed once and I had help get the skin off the toes and head but the second shedding went perfectly.

Sorry I think I started ranting a little but here is a picture of Mana-sama.

Snakeskin Leather at Coach

I recently found out that designer purse and accessory company Coach sells products made of genuine python leather so I'm starting my own personal boycott party.

Medusas's Owl

Feds move to Ban Pythons & Boas

Once the importation and inter-state transport has been banned, there will be a rapid exodus of breeders of these species, and eventually they will disappear from the marketplace along with a significant number of businesses and jobs. Pet owners will feel the pinch as dry goods suppliers and caging manufacturers stop producing products for that segment of the hobby, and eventually it will be impossible to obtain a new pet boa or python.

Here's an already ongoing discussion of the ban on bp.net

USFW Proposed Ban on Eunectes, Boa, and Python

This is important people. The United States Fish and Wildlife service is trying to ban importation and sale/trade of the above species. I am including two links. One with more information about this ban and the second to a thread with a lot of great info and suggestions on how and what to do. This is IMPORTANT people!

My Sam

Last night I decided to bring out Sam for a little bit and let him stretch out some. He's a twelve year old burmese python, possible Clark line and the person I got him from only fed him rats, so you can see how thin he is. I've been fattening him up with piggies.

Medusas's Owl

Can it sting me with it's tongue?

Hi guys!

Inspired by a number of questions I've gotten lately (or the sheer number of questions) by people completely unfamiliar with snakes, I've started compiling an FAQ for the most commonly asked questions. Since my website is as much about snake PR as it is about blue beauties, I'm a bit surprised at myself for not doing this sooner.

Here's some of the questions I've come up with/remembered/have had suggested so far.Collapse )

I'd really appreciate some input here, I'm sure a lot of you have gotten certain questions and misconceptions about your animals from non-snake people more than once! Which ones are the most common? I miss any big ones?

What type of toad is this? I need to find out what kind he is so I can either return him to his proper home or learn to care for him properly.

My research so far seems to lean in the direction of Texas Toad, but I wanted to check with you guys, who probably know way more about the topic than I do. Any info about sub-species, habitat, feeding, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

Pics of my leopard gecko, Vega!

Muchly pics. Bad quality, I'm afraid, but what can you expect from a damned disposable camera. Got to get a nice digital... Anyhow. Here she is!

Emerging from her hidey rock:

ON her hidey rock:

She won't eat unless I feed her from a spoon:

She will, however, play in her food dish:

She also types the majority of my LJ posts. :p :

A couple of decent pics of the entirety of her:

Vega loves her climbing wood:

She does not love kisses from her mommy:

A couple of close ups with my roommate holding her:

"That's IT! No more pictures!":

New Little Buddy

We got a new little friend over the weekend yay! We were originally gonna get a Baby American Alligator from Pro Reptiles but later found the ad for Baby Dwarf Caimans (paleosuchus trigonatus) by the same people. With a quick little email and chat with one of the bosses it was all set up to pick it up at their place on Saturday, only because we know them. He's a little smaller than the advertised ones but Jamie's in love with him. I wish I had some pictures for yall but I dont :(. Anyhoo, I just wanted to make a little update.

I have a two year old ball python and he ate exactly one week ago.

he hasn't been sleeping on his heaty pad and has been cold, but I picked him up today and he was on his pad under the news paper in his large tank. I looked at him and he's rather pink on the underside of his belly.

Why is he pink? I'm scared shitless he burned himself.

the heated pad doesnt feel that warm but im scared because Ive never seen this pinkish redish color on his tummy before.

anyone know?

I'm thinking about taking him into work tomorrow to have him checked out [i work at an animal hospital and one of the doctors is a reptile specialist].

UK Breeders Recommendations

My original plan was for me to get a second snake but after my Mexican Black Kingsnake yearling made a bid for freedom a couple of months ago, it would be my only.

Of course, I would fall in love with a rare, expensive and not available near me snake ((Black Eyed) Leucistic Ball Python)!

But I'm also interested in getting a Rainbow Boa, probably a Brazilian or Columbian though open-minded to them all.

Can anyone recommend any UK breeders/shops for Rainbow Boas?

VBB in the SE needs a good home.

I was just contacted by a lady in the south east (not sure exactly where, I'm waiting for more details) who's son went and got a VBB then dropped it off with her. She can't care for it, and wants to find it a good home ASAP. I assume pick-up only. Doesn't sound like the gender is known.

It's ~6' and hasn't been handled enough. Somewhat aggressive but was showing signs of simmering down.

Drop me a line at my gmail, blue.gorgon(at)gmail.com, if you're interested or know someone who is and I'll get you in touch with her. I'll add more information to as I get it such as location etc.

The Exotic Wildlife ban passed senate today in Washington state.

All exotic wildlife, venomous reptiles, crocodile and water monitors, and crocodilians are now illegal in Washington state(or will be starting January 1st of next year).

Anyone with proof on paper that they legally owned the animals prior to the bill being in effect will be able to keep the animals for the duration of their lives, but it still royally blows.

Fuck you, Washingtion.

I mind as well live in fuckin' California.
